CAISS 2018 spring symposium has been successful hold on Mar. 31, 2018 at Seagate event center. Around 70 storage related scientists, engineers and professionals have attended this events. CAISS president, Dr. Lijie Guan, has made a kick-off opening address firstly. He introduced CAISS mission, executive team, 2017 survey and 2018 plan. In the future, CAISS will target more technology focus, such as data device, data system and even data solutions. All BOD members have been invited on stage to be recognized by CAISS members. Two keynotes about STT-MRAM have been given. Dr. Yiming Huai and Dr. Jing Zhang from Avalanche Technology have introduced the STT-MRAM development status and summarized STT-MRAM is on the cusp of mass production for both stand-alone and embedded applications. Dr. Lijie Guan currently is a Vice President at Western Digital Corporation. At current positon, he is responsible for WDC’s world-wide magnetic recording head design, process, testing and characterization. In his 15-years’ distinguished career in magnetic recording, Dr Guan had successfully led different teams at Headway Technologies (a TDK company), legacy-WD and legacy-HGST to become industry leaders of magnetic head technology each time. He has published more than twenty technical papers and holds more than fifty patents in the field of magnetic recording technology. He is deemed as one of the top experts in magnetic recording. Dr. Guan received B.S. degree from University of Science and Technology of China and Ph.D from Carnegie Mellon University.
