CAISS 2018 spring symposium has been successful hold on Mar. 31, 2018 at Seagate event center. Around 70 storage related scientists, engineers and professionals have attended this events. CAISS president, Dr. Lijie Guan, has made a kick-off opening address firstly. He introduced CAISS mission, executive team, 2017 survey and 2018 plan. In the future, CAISS will target more technology focus, such as data device, data system and even data solutions. All BOD members have been invited on stage to be recognized by CAISS members.
Two keynotes about STT-MRAM have been given. Dr. Yiming Huai and Dr. Jing Zhang from Avalanche Technology have introduced the STT-MRAM development status and summarized STT-MRAM is on the cusp of mass production for both stand-alone and embedded applications. Dr. Luc Thomas from Headway (TDK) have introduced the STT-MRAM mechanism and development for embedded applications. Both talks have attracted a lot interest of the audiences.
After the keynotes, Dr. Carl Che, Dr. Yiming Huai, Dr. Luc Thomas and Dr. Lijie Guan have been invited to chair the panel discussion. The attendees are very interested in the technology. A lot of questions have be raised, such as, how to compare STT-MRAM with other technology? What’s the STT-MRAM targeting application? What’s the STT-MRAM failure mode? How can start-up STT-MRAM companies compete with large company as Samsung, TSMC etc? Dr. Huai and Dr Luc have answered all these questions. The interaction is hot and helpful for attendees to fully understand STT-MRAM technology.
After panel discussion, the storage professionals from different companies have exchanged contact and discussed storage industry prospect. All attendees admitted that the event is very significant. Some first time attendees told BOD member that they will surely attend CAISS event in the future.
